The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel - five comedy hearts

Simply one of my favourite movies. Starring Judy Dench, Bill Nighy, Tom Wilkinson, Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton, Ronald Pickup, Celia Imrie and Dev Patel, the cast is superb. They give a stellar performance, both in humour and honest humanity, that it is impossible to fault any of them.

The film takes you on an extraordinary journey through tears, pity, moments of great wisdom, and moments of hear-felt empathy, but mostly laugh out loud comedy. John Madden does a superb job as director in contrasting the glumness of retirement England with the vibrancy of rebirth India. Maggie's acerbic racism is breathtaking.

You will either want to marry Dev Patel yourself or match him with you daughter. He delivers some of the funniest lines with his endearing innocence and enthusiasm. With his love story woven through the middle of the tale of the retirees, the story is not just for grey haired ghosts- my kids loved it too.
